Lodging FAQs
Will my dog(s) be comfortable?
We go above and beyond to make sure your dog(s) has everything they need and more to have a comfortable stay with us! We have suite sizes to accommodate any dog, with plush beds and blankets, TV screens for stimulation, and an extensive list of a la carte items to enhance their stay even further. Check out our list of hotel accommodations.
What do I need to do before my pup’s stay?
Below is a list of basic requirements for your dog in order for them to enjoy our facility:
- Download the P&P app and upload your pup’s information
- Upload the vaccines into your pup’s profile (we require rabies, distemper, parvo, and bordetella)
- In overall good health; free of any ticks or fleas
- Has no open wounds or stitches
- Is not pregnant or in heat
- Read and sign the Mo’Tail & Spaw terms and conditions under the Agreements tab
What should I bring with me when I drop my dog(s) off for their stay?
- Pre-bagged food from home (this needs to be labeled with your pup’s name and whether it’s am or pm food) It is fairly typical for dogs to have leftover food. Dogs tend to skip meals or not eat as much when they’re lodging
- Blanket or something that smells like home (not required but recommended)
- Up to 2 toys (nothing that squeaks or is a choking hazard)
Can I bring my dog’s favorite toy or blanket?
Yes, you are allowed to include a favorite blanket from home, however, in order to keep our environment as clean and sanitary as possible, anything from home must be washable and not a potential choking hazard. We provide premium beds and fresh blankets for all hotel guests at no additional cost. We allow you to bring two toys that will enhance your dog’s stay as long as they are not deemed a potential choking hazard. We also offer an extensive list of a la carte items for your dog’s enjoyment while staying with us.
How early should I make a holiday reservation?
There are only so many suites to go around so we HIGHLY suggest that you make all your reservations six (6) months in advance! If you know you are going to be out of town, make sure you get your dog(s) on our calendar as soon as you know the dates.
How do I make a reservation?
Call our front desk and make a reservation with one of our staff members. 515-969-2275
How do I drop off and pick up my dog?
Please go to the Mo’Tail & Spaw check-in desk for pick-up and drop-off. Your dog(s) is to remain leashed at all times within our lobby area; please use a quick snap collar.
What happens if my dog(s) gets injured or sick during their stay?
Minor incidents can occur from time to time during a dog’s stay. If something happens, we will take the absolute best care of your dog. Our highly trained staff will assess the situation, and in the event of an emergency, will take the necessary action. You will be notified at the earliest possible moment and the incident/illness will be documented so you are aware of everything being done to ensure your dog’s health and safety.
However unlikely, if a major incident occurs, Iowa Veterinary Specialties, is one block directly north of our location. They are able to handle any emergency 24 hours a day.
In addition, all our daycare supervisors are certified to perform pet first aid and CPR.
Are there any breed restrictions?
We never turn a dog away based on their breed. As previously stated, all dogs are required to pass a temperament screening before allowed in daycare.
Can someone else drop off or pick up my dog?
Yes, as long as you have given us advance notice of the name of the person(s) approved.
Can I call and check on my pet?
Of course! During regular business hours, our staff is more than happy to provide you with updates. We also provide cameras in our luxury suites ($7 a day) that you can log in and check on your dog anytime. Ask one of our staff members for additional info.
Will you administer medication for my dog?
Yes, we are happy to administer your dog’s medication as long as it’s in the original prescription bottle, recently dated, and prescribed by the veterinarian on file. The instructions must be included and clearly legible.
Can my dog still get Kennel Cough from staying at the Mo’Tail & Spaw?
Kennel Cough, also known as Canine Cough, is unfortunately something that occasionally hotel and daycare facilities have to battle. At the Mo’Tail & Spaw, we go above and beyond to make sure your dog(s) daycare environment is clean and sanitary, but the reality is viruses and bacteria can be spread by direct contact to one another or even through the air.
We require each dog entering our facility for daycare, a hotel stay, or for a dog park visit to be current on their Bordetella vaccination. What is important to remember, like a human flu shot, Bordetella only prevents certain strands of the virus and therefore, depending on what is spreading, a dog could still get sick.
It is vitally important that if your dog is showing signs of Canine Cough, please refrain from visiting the facility and consult your veterinarian. Signs of Canine Cough are:
- A persistent, forceful cough
- Watery nasal discharge
- Coughing in dogs throughout the night that keeps them awake
- Dry heaving
- In severe cases, symptoms can include fever, pneumonia, and more
What additional add-ons or services does Mo-Tail & Spaw offer?
View our extensive list of a la carte items that you can add to your dog’s hotel stay.
You can also add room service, daycare, and even time at the spa while they are at the Mo’Tail & Spaw!
Is a staff member at the facility overnight?
For the safety of all our hotel guests, Mo’Tail & Spaw is staffed 24-hours day, 7 days a week.
Can I tour your facility?
Below is a facility tour of our boarding, daycare, and grooming areas.
In addition, we can provide tours on weekdays at the top of each hour between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., if staff are available. We do not do tours on the weekends due to the high number of dogs we typically have lodging with us. If you would like an in-person tour, please call our front desk to schedule one!
Can multiple dogs from the same household stay together?
Yes, in most cases, we can accommodate up to two (2) dogs in a suite as long as they come from the same household and can co-exist together safely. In the event the two dogs are exceptionally large, for example, Great Danes or Mastiffs, then they may be too large to fit comfortably in the same suite. We offer a slight discount for the second dog provided they can be together in the same suite.
What if my dog has special needs?
If your dog has some special needs, our staff is happy to help. If anything above and beyond our high-level care is needed for your dog, make sure to notify our staff upon check-in so we can ensure your dog’s stay is as close to perfect as possible.
Will you walk my dog during its stay?
Your dog will get plenty of potty breaks and time to stretch their legs. If your dog would prefer a dedicated walk, we can certainly accommodate. Please take a look at our extensive menu of add-on services. In addition, we offer an additional discount on daycare if your dog is staying with us.
No-show, last-minute cancellation & late pick-up policy:
Drop off is from 1-6 and pickup from 7-11. If you need to drop off before or after our available times there is a $15 after hours fee. This is only applicable if discussed in advance. The earliest drop off/pick up time is 6am and the latest is 7pm. If you need to drop off earlier or later than these times, you will need to pay for an additional night of lodging.
Cancellation or no-show policy: We will keep the deposit from the appointment, which is the price of the first night of the lodging stay. Appointments need to be canceled 48 hours in advance. We reserve the right to charge up to 50% of what the total bill would have been.
